One of my favorite things about September is attending the season’s first concerts by various orchestras. Last night, I had the pleasure of experiencing the inaugural performance of the Emerald City Chamber Orchestra (ECCO), led by the talented conductor Hsing-Hui Hsu. It was a spectacular evening featuring Jesse Montgomery’s Starburst, Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings, Benjamin Britten’s Serenade for Tenor, Horn, and Strings, and Antonín Dvořák’s Serenade for Strings.
What made this program so special was the unique blend of talented community musicians performing alongside professional players from Seattle. The orchestra played great and the repertoire was captivating. The audience clearly appreciated the warm, community-focused atmosphere.
At Everything Conducting, we’d love to hear about YOUR ensembles! Many of you are doing incredible work, making meaningful impacts in your communities. Share with us the pieces featured in your season openers — we'd be thrilled to spotlight your successes!
Here’s to all who celebrate great music, foster diverse talents, and create inviting, engaging concert experiences. Cheers!
